What happened
The Wizards and Bilal Coulibaly did not agree to a rookie-scale extension before the deadline, so the 22-year-old wing is set to reach restricted free agency next summer.
Washington drafted Coulibaly seventh overall in 2023, and coach Brian Keefe said the wing is valuable for his defensive presence and for guarding the opponent’s best players.
This keeps Coulibaly’s contract situation unresolved entering Wednesday’s opener against Milwaukee, so his role matters for Washington’s rotation even though his future beyond this season is undecided.
