What happened
Landry Shamet enters New York’s title defense as a reserve guard whose role has grown, and the Knicks re-signed him this summer on a four-year, $24 million deal.
The piece says he can move into the two-guard spot if a wing is out, but it also notes his defensive matchup limits and a shoulder issue he has managed over the past two seasons.
Shamet matters because New York may need bench scoring and extra wing coverage if injuries or trades thin the rotation. His value is more about flexibility than a locked-in starting job.
