What happened
Los Angeles opened its preseason finale against Denver with Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves, Walker Kessler, Matisse Thybulle and Ziaire Williams, and Williams had just returned after missing the previous three exhibitions.
Coach JJ Redick said Quentin Grimes is still expected to start many regular-season games, but Friday’s look was about lineup balance and how Grimes might handle the ball off the bench while Collin Sexton sits with a right lower leg injury.
The Lakers’ fifth spot still appears unsettled, so this preseason look may affect wing and ball-handler usage more than it locks in an opener lineup. Grimes remains in the mix, but Redick said nothing is definitive for next week.
