What happened
Brandon Ingram will miss the start of the Clippers' season after heel surgery revealed a partially torn Achilles, while Bradley Beal still is not practicing because of knee inflammation.
Los Angeles also begins the year short-handed with Yanic Konan Niederhauser, Max Strus and Jordan Miller out, as offseason penalties stripped five future first-round picks.
That absence leaves Tyronn Lue managing a thin rotation early, and Garland may carry a larger offensive load until Ingram or Beal return.
